So, who is it going to be? Saquon Barkley? Lamar Jackson? Maybe Josh Allen? It is a really close and tough decision. Let’s go one by one. I think with Barkley, had he gotten this record, he’s MVP. He’s clearly the best player on offense for the Eagles and when he’s not being productive, the Eagles offense has faltered. He will finish the year with 2,005 yards rushing for 13 TDs, plus the 278 yards receiving and 2 receiving TDs. He has been nothing short of dominant. But, considering this is a QB award, Barkley would’ve needed something special to be seriously considered. That extra “thing,” would’ve been the record. I don’t think not getting the record makes his season less special, but I think it impacts his MVP chances.
Next, we have Lamar Jackson, who has been nothing short of spectacular all year. Currently, Jackson has 3,955 yards passing for 39 TDs on just FOUR INTs. He also, has 852 yards rushing for 4 TDs. This guy plays QB, by the way. He also has a completion percentage of 67.9, which outside of 2023, has never been higher than 66%. This has been the most passing yards and TDs by Jackson in his career. The Ravens have been led by Lamar’s success, and they would be nowhere near the record they are without him. His stats are there, and his value to the team is clear. It would be really hard to not give it to him. Again.
Finally, we have Josh Allen, who has led a Bills team with far less talent than they’ve had in previous years, to abundant success and production. The Bills sit at 13-3 and have won the AFC East again, but they would not be here without Allen. He has thrown for 3,731 yards, for 28 TDs and 6 INTs. On top of that, Allen has also rushed for 531 yards for 12 TDs. That is an absurd stat line for a QB. I know I just said the same thing about Jackson, but this is equally as crazy in a different way. I think if it were up to me, I would give it Lamar because his numbers and team success has been too good to ignore. But, in the same vein, Allen has had extremely similar numbers, with a little bit less firepower. I wouldn’t be upset either way, but I think it’ll be Jackson. It could be Josh Allen though. I don’t know I can’t decide. Both are of MVP quality.
